With several incidents of ATM fraud being reported from the district recently, police today released a list of guidelines for people to prevent recurrence of such cases.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sumit Kumar released some guidelines for the public here.

He said that directions to install CCTV cameras in all ATM booths have already been sent to the banks in Faridabad district.

As far as misuse or fraudulent use of ATM card is concerned it has been found that in most cases it is the negligence of the account holder which leads to fraud, he said.

Kumar further said that in most cases it is found that criminals lure people, who are either from rural areas and are not very familiar with the functioning of ATM or senior citizens who have difficulties in operating ATM machines.

Precaution has to be taken while operating the ATM, like if any person enters the booth, he should immediately be requested to wait outside, Kumar said.

Another mistake which is usually repeated by people is disclosing the card number and ATM pin to someone asking for it on telephone pretending as if he or she is calling from the bank, he said, adding, no one should write ATM pin on the back of the card.

Kumar said it is advisable to use the banking mode of payment at a secured site for internet banking.
