In a massive anti-encroachment drive in this town, the police today removed encroachments on the 13-km long Victory Tunnel-Shoghi stretch of Kalka-Shimla National highway to facilitate smooth traffic on the highway.

The drive continued for more than 10 hours and heavy police deployment was made to avoid any untoward incident.

The police removed wreckages, rotten dumpers, old water tanks, off road vehicles and other construction material like stone, bricks and sand, SP, Shimla D W Negi said.

He said the police did not challan any encroacher and no FIR was registered but cautioned the people against encroaching upon the roads.

Similar drive would be carried out on Totu-Boileauganj road, Negi said.

The idea behind the drive was to keep Shimla clean and maintain its natural beauty besides ensuring smooth traffic, he said.
