Police rescue cattle being taken for slaughter

Police rescued two cows and three calves in the wee hours today, which were being taken to a slaughter house.

The cattle were being taken in a mini-truck last night, Station House Officer Subodh Saxena said, adding, the truck was asked to stop for checking during highway patrolling.

The driver tried to speed away but the truck got stuck in the mud. However, the driver was successful in fleeing the spot, leaving the truck behind, he said.

The police have rescued all the five bovines and handed them over to the pradhan of Bhikkanpur village.

According to preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the cattle were being taken to a slaughter house.
 

Police is trying to trace the owner through engine and chassis number of the vehicle.

An FIR under relevant sections of Prohibition of Cow Slaughter Act against unidentified owner of the truck has been filed and the police is trying to trace the owner through engine and chassis number of the vehicle.
