A teenaged girl, who was allegedly lured by a couple with the promise of being paid good money for her dancing skills, was rescued from Motihari in Bihar, police said.

The 17-year-old bore marks of injury and was hospitalised on their return tonight. Police had failed to arrest the couple due to resistance by locals.

Police said the accused couple from Bihar had seen the girl from Uluberia in Howrah district dance at a wedding, following a request by elders, at Kharagpur in August.

The couple, identified as Mohan Paswan and Priyanka, told her that she would be paid well for her dancing skills following which she left her parents at the wedding to go with them, police said.

Her parents, who did not know about the couple, lodged a missing diary on August 18 in Uluberia police station.

Her mobile phone had been switched off but recently it was found to be on and its location was tracked. Police then reached Motihari and rescued her from a hotel where she was locked up in a bathroom, they said.

However, a mob protected the couple and they could not be arrested, they added.
