Over 100 activists of the J-K Democratic Front tried to take out a protest rally here in the city in support of their demand for the release of its three members, who were arrested in the Assembly yesterday.

However, the activists were cane charged by police in a bid to disperse them during which four of them were injured.

The state Assembly witnessed unruly scenes yesterday as three JKDF activists, who had got passes on the request of expelled BJP member Jagdish Raj Sapolia to witness the proceedings from the public gallery, unfurled the flag of their newly-floated party and shouted slogans.

Munish Khajuria, Sunny Malhotra and Ambedkar Gupta were immediately overpowered by Assembly marshals and placed under arrest on the orders of Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone.

The speaker today ordered the suspension of five security personnel in connection with the incident.
