A helicopter has crashed above a popular mountain hostel in the central Swiss Alps, killing all four occupants.

Police in the canton (state) of Uri said the helicopter crashed for unknown reasons in rough terrain above the Kroenten Hut, which stands 1,903 meters above sea level.

Police, fire and the air rescue service responded, and the Swiss Accident Investigation Board opened an investigation.

The crash comes just two days after another helicopter crash killed four men, including the pilot, in the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino in southern Switzerland.

Police say the co-pilot and one passenger survived by jumping out of the helicopter, which clipped a boulder as it was taking off from a granite quarry early Saturday.
