In a first, the Defence Research and Development Organisation will be displaying its products at the 44th edition of All India Police Science Congress at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, to be held from March 11 to 13.

"The 44th edition of All India Police Science Congress in Gujarat will have certain exclusive features, which will include a display of products by DRDO," Director General of Police P C Thakur said here today.

Gujarat is hosting the event along with the Bureau of Police Research and Development for the third time. It was held in the state earlier in 1971 and 2005.

Chief Minister Anandiben Patel will inaugurate the event.

"Owing to the much-talked-about 'Make in India' concept, it has been decided to display the products of DRDO before the Indian police with a view to strengthen the internal and external security. By this, we can have a sense that we can depend upon our own indigenous technology rather to depend upon others," added Thakur.

Additional Director General of Police, Administration, A K Singh, who is the chairman of the event, said the Congress will have discussions on cyber crime and forensic science, modernisation of police force, safety and security issues in smart cities, human trafficking, role of social media in policing, etc.

"We have also included a new topic, 'best practises'. If other states have achieved a break-through by adopting innovative things, we will discuss it in the Congress," he said.

Futuristic policing, which includes cyber space policing, would be another topic of discussion.

A round-table DGs (Director General of Police) conference on the second day will discuss 'predictive policing'. As many as 100 officers from various states are likely to participate in the Congress, Singh said.
