Police seize fake new currency of face value Rs 1.86 lakh

Police seized fake Rs 2,000 notes with face value of Rs 1.86 lakh and arrested two alleged drug smugglers from their possession during checking in Dharmkot village here.

Acting on a tip off, the accused were yesterday arrested when they were travelling in a car, they said, adding they have been identified as Jagdish Singh and Buta Singh.

The fake currency is of Rs 2,000 denomination, police said, adding two gram of heroin was also seized from the accused.

The accused were active in supply of fake currency and contrabands in Moga, Ferozepur and Jagroan, police said, adding they used to bring the drugs from Rajasthan.
 

Police are investigating the source of the fake currency notes of Rs 2,000 denomination.

Police have registered a case against them under relevant sections of IPC and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
