Police seize huge quantity of fake and adulterated items

Getting a tip from the Intellectual Property Rights investigating agency, police raided as many as four places since Friday and recovered huge quantities of fake engine oil, lubricants, fan regulators and wrist watches marked under names of reputed companies, the sources said.

Purighat police of the city seized over 600 pieces of wrist watches marketed in packets of a reputed company after raiding a shop in Parvati Bazar of Haripur. Police have arrested one Jaswant Singh of Kolkata in this connection.

Similarly, police from the same location also seized fake ceiling fan regulators packaged in another branded company in this sector, they said.

 

In another incident, local Madhupatna police also seized adulterated lubricants and engine oil marketed in tins leveled of various well-known companies. The lubricants worth over lakhs of rupees were seized from an outlet located in Rajendra Nagar market complex. Police have arrested at least two persons in this connection, sources said.

It is alleged that these fake products under famous brand names are prepared at makeshift godowns in the city and are supplied to rural areas where the shops stack these products in huge quantities making huge profit. It is also believed that the traders were engaged in this unethical trade practices for last several years.
