Police today seized over Rs 6 crore of unaccounted cash from different locations in the district during a drive to check the flow of money in view of the parliamentary elections.
"We today seized Rs 6.69 crore of unaccounted money from different parts of the district during a drive, which has been launched to keep a tap on unaccounted cash flow ahead of Lok Sabha elections," said a senior police officer.
At UP Gate, police seized around 4.16 crore from four vehicles, he said.

"We recovered Rs 2 crore, Rs 1 crore, Rs 89 lakh and another Rs 13.5 lakh from different vehicles in different instances near UP Gate. Income-tax officials are now verifying the origin of cash. The cash was seized only after drivers of vehicles failed to furnish all documents," said the officer.
In Kavi Nagar area also, police seized Rs 2.36 crore of unaccounted amount from prime Raj Nagar District Centre (RDC) commercial area of Ghaziabad.
In two other instances, cash amounting to Rs 6 lakh each was recovered from two businessmen of the city.
"These seizures were made under suspicion that the amount could be used for distributing during the elections," police added.
