Police today claimed to have solved a hit-and-run case by arresting a cab driver who mowed down a school girl here last year.

Shakeel Ahmad Khan, a resident of Watrana village of Bandipora district, was arrested after a test identification parade at Parimpora police station under the supervision of Tehsildar central Srinagar, a police spokesman said.

The girl, Khushboo Posh, a resident of Batwara, was knocked down by a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) driven by Khan when she, along with her friends, was returning from the Board of School Education Office at Bemina on November 16 last year.

"The girl was shifted to nearby JVC hospital by her friends in the same cab which hit her. On seeing the critical condition of the injured girl, the driver had later fled with the vehicle. The girls could not note the registration number of the cab," the spokesman said.

The girl had succumbed to injuries in Soura hospital.
