A police station at Bodhjungnagar, about 20 km from here today, was stormed by a group of tribals prompting the authorities to clamp prohibitory orders in the area.

The trouble started following a rumor that a tribal woman, wife of a Tripura State Rifles(TSR) personnel was kidnapped, West Tripura superintendent of police Abhijit Saptarshi told reporters.

Tribal angry with the police for allegedly not being able to rescue the woman threw stones and arrows at the police and also set on fire some vehicles, he said.

The situation was brought under control after deployment of huge police contingent and promulgation of 144 CRPC, Saptarshi said.

The woman had gone to see her husband at the TSR camp at Bodjungnagar but he was not there. She then started on her way home with another TSR personnel, a collegue of her husband.

However, the man reported to the police station that the woman was kidnapped on the way.

When the rumor spread, the villagers attacked the police station.

Later, the woman was found in her house at Raisyabari in Dhaalai district, about 100 km away from Bodhjungnagar.

Police is investigating the case.
