Police sub-inspector mowed down by bootlegger's car dies

A police sub-inspector, who was mowed down by a bootlegger's car, while trying to stop it from entering Gujarat's territory at a checkpost in Shamlaji area of Modasa taluka in Aravalli district, succumbed to his injuries today, officials said.

"On March 22, some bootleggers carrying Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) tried to enter Gujarat from Rajasthan. Police sub-inspector A K Vala tried to stop them, but instead of stopping, they ran into him," Modasa Deputy Superintendent of Police K F Bhadoliya said.

"Vala who sustained serious injuries, was treated for around 18 days and succumbed to his injuries today at Apollo hospital in Gandhinagar," Bhadoliya said.
 

Investigating officer, police inspector K V Sagar said two people were arrested from the scene of the offence after they hit Vala and tried to run away.

"Police sub-inspector Vala was checking vehicles at Shamlaji checkpost. When he tried to stop this Swift Desire car belonging to bootleggers, they hit him badly, resulting in serious injuries to his head," Sagar said.

"Two bootleggers, namely Mansingh and Chandansingh from Rajasthan were nabbed, while Vala was taken to hospital for treatment," Sagar said.

"We seized 469 bottles of foreign liquor worth around Rs 2.21 lakh from the car," he said.

The bootleggers have been booked for murder, he said.
