A suspect in the shooting and wounding of a South Carolina sheriff's deputy was barricaded in a house in North Charleston today morning, a police spokesman said.
A female Berkeley County sheriff's deputy was wounded early today after she stepped out of her vehicle in Goose Creek. Captain Mike Cochran said the deputy was in stable condition at a hospital.

North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor told reporters that officers were tipped off that the suspect appeared to be heading from Goose Creek to North Charleston.
Three people who were asleep in the house were able to get out safely and told officers the suspect is injured and bleeding, Pryor said.
Hostage negotiators were talking with the suspect in an attempt to convince him to surrender peacefully, Pryor said. The names of the deputy and the suspect have not been released.
Officers from several agencies were at the scene.
