Delhi Police has dismissed the suggestion that the attacks on churches in the capital had any "pattern" as there were incidents of theft in 265 temples as well last well.

In a report submitted to the Home Ministry, police said the incident at St Alphonsa Church in Vasant Kunj, where unidentified persons broke into it and took away the ciborium after scattering the Holy Eucharist on the ground, was a "stray" incident.

Official sources said the report came following a directive of the Home Ministry after Monday morning's incident in the South Delhi locality.

There have been four earlier alleged attacks on churches in Delhi in the last two months.

Anguished over such incidents, a delegation of Christian leaders today met Home Minister Rajnath Singh and demanded protection to their places of worship and impartial inquiry.

Delhi Police in its report said that there was no particular "pattern" linking the five incidents and the incident at Vasant Kunj was just a "stray" case of theft.

Police also conveyed that the national capital has seen thefts in 265 temples last year.

During his meeting with the Christan delegation, Singh assured them that security at their religious places will be stepped up as he asserted that any discrimination on the basis of religion will not be tolerated.

He said an impartial inquiry has been ordered into the recent incidents.

Singh also instructed Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi to make proper arrangements for the security of churches and other places of worship.
