Police to conduct DNA test on accused

Kerala police today said they were planning to conduct a DNA test on the absconding accused they arrested from the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border to scientifically ascertain his identity.

The accused, Antony Varghese alias Aadu Antony, who is wanted in hundreds of cases across the two states, had escaped after stabbing to death a policeman on duty and seriously injuring a police officer in 2012, police said.

Varghese had purchased land and house in the name of Selvaraj at Dharapuram, bordering Palakkad. Electronic goods worth over Rs 20 lakh have been seized from his house at Gopalapuram from where he was picked up by police yesterday.
 

He was brought to Kollam today and produced before a local court.

Police said at present there are at least 27 cases against him. He had admitted to have stabbed Maniyan Pillai to escape, officials said.

He is said to have married at least 20 women, police stated.
