To improve the disaster management mechanism in Uttarakhand, the police here will train the local youths of each village and deploy them training to minimise the damage to life and property in Chamoli district.

"We are collaborating with the villagers to improve the disaster management mechanism in the district. At every police station, at least five young men will be trained so that their skills can be utilised in times of a natural disaster to minimise damage to life and property," Superintendent of Police Priti Priyadarshini said.

The programme will be launched with the appointment of one special police officer in each police station who will be trained to deal with any kind of natural disaster, she said.

These officers will then train the youths in villages on how to respond to natural calamities like earthquakes, landslides, floods and forest fires, the SP said.
