Under attack from opposition parties on law and order front, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today said police have taken swift action in most of the incident of crimes and a big chunk of the cases were of personal disputes.

"In maximum cases of crime swift action has been taken. In a number of cases there are family and personal disputes due to which incidents happened," Akhilesh told reporters after the state cabinet meeting.

"What can the government do in such cases. When you go in the reality in many cases close ones are involved," he added.

BJP, while slamming the government yesterday on gruesome killing of a girl in Lucknow, alleged that though claims were being made of policing in nine minutes, but in this case police took more than 12 hours to register the FIR.

BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak had alleged that women were not safe even in the state capital.

"The government, which has given the slogan of 'beti bachao, beti badhao' is failing in ensuring security of women in the state," he alleged.

He said recent incident in which a girl was hacked to death was a glaring example of poor law and order situation in the state.

"Whether its Badaun, Moradabad or Lucknow women are being exploited and harassed," he said.

Pathak said that instead of giving slogans the government should take serious measures to ensure security of the women.
