Police trace identity of decomposed human body

: Forty eight hours after the decomposed body of a woman was found under a culvert on the Dharmapuri-Harur road, police today identified it as that of a 30-year-old woman from Berigai in Krishnagiri district and arrested a man who had lent money to her.

Her husand had filed a missing person complaint on February 20, police said.

Assistant Superintendent of Police P S C Kalyan said villagers of Senmmanahalli, 18 km from here found a gunny bag with a leg sticking out on the road on Feb 26 and informed them about it.

Police found the highly decomposed body of a woman and were not immediately able to identify it. A special team constituted to trace her identity collected details of recent missing cases from police stations in neighbouring districts Krishnagiri, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore and Salem and identified the woman.
 

Investigations led to arrest of a man from Palacode who had lent money to the lady and not got it back. He had called her on his mobile phone to the railway station there on Feb 20 and gave her a poison laced cool drink. After drinking it she fainted and died.He later snatched her jewellery,tied the body in a gunny bag put it in his car and threw it down the culvert.

The man has confessed to the murder, police said, adding the jewellery and the car used have been recovered,

He was produced before the Judicial Magistrate Court-1 here, which remanded him to 15 days judicial custody.
