Police unearths 3 prostitution rackets, 19 arrested

The accused were running small guest houses which were being used for running prostitution racket, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, nine persons were arrested from a Guest House located in the old walled city.

The accused were identified, Mohit Kumar of Amritsar, Rajesh Kumar of Gurdaspur, Varun Kumar of Ganda Singh colony, Sunny Kumar of Katra Karam Singh, Ravi Kumar of Himatpura, Veena of Gurdaspur, Anjali Sharma of Pathankot, Jasprit Kaur and Sofia of New Amritsar.

Investigating Officer Inspector Iqbal Singh incharge of Police Station C-Division said the kingpin, who was the guesthouse owner Mohit Kumar, and his accomplice Sunny Kumar were booked.

 

He said the girls were brought from the neighboring districts of Amritsar and rural Punjab.

In the second case, Police Station A Division Inspector Sanjeev Kumar nabbed two women and one man -- Manjit Kaur, Manmeet Kaur and Harinder Singh -- last evening, after locals alerted them about objectionable activities of the accused.

He said the accused were running the racket with unmarried girls and women from economically weak families and providing accommodation to visiting couples for illegitimate activities.

In the third case, the police booked nearly seven accused, including the owner of a Guest House, on charges of immoral trafficking.

All the accused belonged to poor families and were found indulging in the racket for the last more than a year, police said, adding, in most cases the girls were found to have willfully entered the racket to earn money.
