: Kerala Police would intensify vigil in tribal colonies to curb increasing instances of alleged atrocities against them in North Kerala, Home minister Ramesh Chennaithala said here today
Speaking to reporters after a high-level meeting of police officers to discuss this matter, he said steps would be taken to speed up cases related to tribal people.Help desks would be formed in police stations near tribal areas to assist people in registering complaints. Sub-Inspectors would make visits to the hamlets every week, he said.
Problems faced by them pertaining to drinking water, electricity, health care and education will be solved on a priority basis, he said, adding, land disputes of the tribals would be taken up by the revenue department.
Atrocities against tribal women and children would be taken up on a priority basis. Though there is a law in this regard, problem lies with its implementation, he said.
Stating that sale and consumption of illicit liquor was ruining lives of tribals, he said police and excise officials would jointly take action to tackle the problem.
Chennithala said government would take strict action to end the eradicate the menace of Maoists in tribal areas, whose presence has been reported to it.
He said government would have no objection to human rights activists doing their job, but strict action would be taken against those helping Maoists and naxalites under the cover of human rights activities.
