Police whip on gambling: 48 held; Rs 1 lakh, jewellery seized

In a crackdown on gamblers in Shahdara, police here conducted simultaneous raids at multiple places and arrested 48 people and seized from them over Rs 1 lakh in cash and other items.

Police said the arrests were made during simultaneous raids at three places in Geeta Colony, Vivek Vihar and Seema Puri over the last two days.

"Rs 1,04,905 in cash, besides calculators, slips, jewellery items were recovered from the arrested 48 people," said Nupur Prasad, DCP (Shahdara).

Police had received information about gambling at two houses in Geeta Colony and Vivek Vihar and an open space near a slum in Seema Puri.
 

The information was developed and simultaneous raids were conducted by three teams of police.

During questioning, the accused said gambling was being conducted at the three places with the help of slips. Accused Satish ran the gambling den in Geeta Colony and offered 90 times more return on amount put on bets, said the officer.

In Seema Puri, accused Jaswant was the kingpin of gambling.

The Vivek Vihar house where 26 persons were arrested, is owned by Ganesh who is absconding, she said.
