The police in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Dantewada district is bringing out a short film on Naxalism in an effort to wean tribal youths away from the rebels and their ideology.
District Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pallava, a doctor-turned IPS officer, is the producer of the 15-minute film, titled "Nayi Subaha Ka Suraj" (Sun of a new dawn).
The film is based on experiences and observations of of Pallava and Dantewada Additional SP Sooraj Singh Parihar, also an IPS officer, while serving in the insurgency-hit areas of the state.
Some former naxals who surrendered before police have provided inputs for the film, Pallava said. Some of them, alongwith a few police personnel, have also acted in it.
"Films are one of the best means to explain an issue to people. This film is aimed at exposing the evil face of the Maoists and create awareness among people against naxalism," the IPS officer told PTI.

The film was shot in the jungles of Dantewada.
"We have tried to depict various aspects of Naxalism like destruction of roads, hospitals and schools by villagers themselves when they were part of naxal movement, why people join naxalism and then quit, and what turmoil they face emotionally when they surrender," he said.
It also shows frustration of naxals of Bastar region when they are sidelined and lower-rung cadres from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana get preference within the organization, Pallava said.
It also deals with the issue of forced sterilisation and abortions among naxals, he said.
The film will be released in Hindi as well Gondi, the dialect spoken by tribals in Bastar region.
Pallava, who plays himself as Dantewada SP in the film, said it would premiere at Education City at Jawanga in the district.
Later, sarpanchs will be asked to screen it in their respective villages, he said.
The district police plan to make four-five more films on Naxalism and how it has hampered development of Bastar, Pallava added.
