In the latest incident of attack on police personnel in the state, a 49-year-old head constable was injured when he was hit with an iron rod on his head near his residence in Kalyan township, police said today.

Uttam Adsul, attached to Thane police headquarters, was walking his dog after coming home from duty last evening when one Sachin Shedge allegedly hit him from behind, said police PRO Sukhada Narkar.

Adsul was undergoing treatment.

Shedge has been booked under various sections of IPC by Khadakpada police under Kalyan division.

No arrest has been made in this connection, the PRO said, adding that the motive behind the attack was still being ascertained.

The incident came close on heels of activists of a Ganesh pandal allegedly trying to drown an on-duty police sub-inspector in a lake during immersion of idols, and a string of attacks on police personnel in various parts of Mumbai, Thane and rest of the state in past weeks.

An on-duty traffic policeman died early this month, days after he was hit on head allegedly by a biker in suburban Khar following an argument over violation of traffic rules.
