A 28-year-old sub-inspector of police attached to Aheri police station in the district has been arrested for killing his wife eight months ago, the police said today.

Awinash Tagad, resident of Shirala in Ahmednagar district, allegedly murdered his first wife Essentha Pillai. Her body was recovered from a graveyard in Aheri today, said Aheri sub-divisional police officer Ramesh Dhumal.

The body has been sent for post mortem. There could be more people involved in the killing, he said.

According to police, Awinash killed his wife on February 24 and buried the body a couple of days later.

He had married Essentha Pillai in September 2014 in Gadchiroli. But in December 2014 he married another girl.

On February 24, 2014, Esthana and the other woman had a quarrel, following which Esthana disappeared.

Her sister Juliet asked Awinash about her, but he could not give satisfactory reply, so she appraoched the police.

After investigations, Awinash was held on October 30.
