Policeman shot at by fleeing drug smugglers in Raj

A senior policeman of the Dewair Police Station in Rajsamand district was shot by alleged drug smugglers at a checkpost in the wee hours of today, police said.

Station House Officer at Dewair Ramesh Lal Kaviya went to intercept a suspected vehicle carrying narcotic drugs when he received a single bullet in his forehead.

He was then rushed to a private hospital in Udaipur, the police said.

Bullet was removed from his head by surgeons, and his condition stated to be stable, they said.

In retaliation, the team of eight policemen led by Kaviya also opened five rounds of fire at the fleeing smugglers but they fled in their Bolerao vehicle, they said.
 

Dewair Police station had a tip of information that the particular vehicle was loaded with narcotic drugs (opium and husk), and a trap was organised but it got futile, they said.

All checkposts in tribal belt of Rajsamand were alerted and combing operation was launched to arrest the accused, they said.
