Policeman, two others killed in road mishaps

Three persons, including a head constable of traffic police, were killed in separate road accidents across Jammu region.

Head Constable Ashok Kumar was run over yesterday by a vehicle in Nowshera on Jammu-Poonch highway as he was signalling it to stop, a police officer said today.

The driver of the vehicle hit Kumar and fled from the spot, he added.

A case has been lodged and a manhunt launched to nab the driver, he said.

In another incident, a man died yesterday after being hit by an unidentified vehicle. The mishap in which Gopal Singh was killed took place at Lakhanpur toll plaza in Kathua district, the officer said.
 

A pedestrian was fatally hit yesterday by a speeding water

tanker at Fawwara Chowk in Katra town of Reasi district.

Saraj Din was walking on the roadside when the tanker hit him, the officer said, adding that the driver has been arrested and the vehicle impounded.

Cases have been registered in connection with the three incidents, he added.
