Raising concerns over law and order situation in the state, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Partap Singh Bajwa today said the police is "helpless" in protecting its own men in uniform.

The brutal killing of four police officers in a row is a strong signal towards this, he said here.

Accusing Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal of holidaying in Goa on the pretext of a 'chintan shivir' Bajwa said, "Let him first put his house in order."

Expressing anguish over killing of police officers, he said the Punjab police who fought militancy and earned reputation of being the country's best police force, is now in dire straits.

"Police is being used to assist criminals and members of mafia groups engaged in unlawful activities," alleged Bajwa and questioned the norms adopted by Punjab cabinet for providing security cover to politicians.

The SAD leaders have lost faith on the Punjab police and are getting security cover of central forces like the CISF, he added.
