State Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat told the Legislative Assembly during the question hour that a proposal for special squads to stop illegal constructions in the grampanchayat jurisdiction on the outskirts of cities is being considered.

With the rapid urbanisation in the state, illegal constructions have come up in the areas situated on the outskirts of cities. "This needs to be regulated to give a proper direction to the growth of urbanisation," he said.

The issue is not restricted to only his revenue department but also other ministries, including Urban Development, Thorat said while responding to supplementaries to the main question on illegal constructions in the Haveli taluka of Pune district.
