Eminent Italian director Marco Bellochio today said the political atmosphere existing in the society made him radical though it was never his choice.
He was in the city to participate in the ongoing 18th edition of International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), which showcased a retrospective of his movies.
While interacting with journalists on the sidelines of the event here, Bellochio said he always liked to portray the realities of life in a poetic and deeper way and tried to put forth his own subjective point of view while dealing with historical facts.
"For the past 17 years, I have been organizing a weekly workshop for up-coming film makers. I have confidence in their potential," he said when asked about upcoming directors.
The 74-year-old veteran also expressed happiness on the retrospective section of IFFK saying that it helped him to understand his growth as a director.
He was accompanied by his collaborators, Alexandria and Meries.
