The Election Commission (EC) has directed the Vadodara district election officer to allot advertisment locations to the Congress, official sources told PTI tonight.

The EC decision came after the Congress accused the district election officer and the Vadoodara Muncipal cprporation (VMC) of allotting 1,000 prime advertising locations to the BJP and AICC general secretary Madhusudan Mistry threatened to start an agitation on this issue today.

The BJP had rented 1000 kiosks on March 23 while the Congress had approached the VMC on April 1.

The VMC has 4,000 pole kiosks, out of which it offered another 1,000 to the Congress, which was unwilling to accept it, since Mistry wanted exactly the same spots rented by the BJP, which was practically not possible.

Many of the remaining 3000 kiosks are located in prime locations including the railway station area, Alkapuri and other parts of the city.
