Polls to 7 MCs in Haryana underway

Polling for seven municipal corporations in Haryana is being held today amid tight security arrangements with nearly 30 per cent voting recorded till noon.

The municipal corporations where polling is underway are Ambala, Panchkula, Karnal, Panipat, Hisar, Rohtak and Yamunanagar.

Official sources said that nearly 30 per cent polling had been recorded by noon.

"The polling is going on in a smooth manner. There has been no untoward incident reported from anywhere so far," State Election Commissioner, Dharam Vir told PTI over phone.

Besides the seven MCs, the polling is also being held in two municipal committees of Farukh Nagar (Gurgaon) and Kalanaur (Rohtak).
 

The counting of votes in the municipal committees will be made immediately after the polls. The counting of votes will be held on June 4 in case of Municipal Corporations polls, he said.

A total of 1,686 candidates are in fray for the 144 wards of seven corporations. Of the total 1,696 polling stations, 251 have been declared sensitive and 335 hyper-sensitive.

Heavy deployment of police force has been made to maintain law and order at the polling stations and sensitive areas, he said.

More than 8,000 constables and head constables have been deployed on polling stations.
