It was criminal to pollute rivers and the environment with industrial waste since there was technology to control it, Industrialist Navin Jindal said today.
"I saw some rivers being polluted. I felt sad. The situation 40/50 years ago was different as there was no technology. But now, polluting is criminal as there is the latest technology to control it," the Chairman of Jindal Steel and Power Limited told a seminar here.
"Latest technology is available to work without polluting the environment. One can't even see smoke in the plant because of technology," the Congress MP said.

Cautioning about modern lifestyles of a section of people and urging minimum use of air-conditioners, he said all companies should use the latest technology.
He said more population meant greater consumption of electricity and steel, which would lead to increase in environmental pollution.
He also spoke on population control and that small families were the need of the hour for this.
The Congress leader stressed on literacy and use of contraceptives as part of population control, particularly in rural areas.
He was addressing a seminar titled 'Corporate Responsibility in Conservation of Natural Resources and Biodiversity' in the presence of Union Minister of State K H Muniyappa.
