A first year polytechnic student,hailing from Kerala and studying at Namakkal in Tamil Nadu, has alleged that eight students, including him, were manhandled by the hostel warden recently, police said today.
Shinto and his colleagues of Excel polytechnic, all Keralite students and aged around 20, who attended an Auto Expo held on January 9 at their college premises, arrived late to the hostel following which they were allegedly beaten by the hostel warden, a senior police officer here said.
Their mobile phones were also confiscated and they could not contact their parents.

The students then left the hostel for Kozhikode, their native place on January 10 evening, without informing college authorities, he said.
Shinto, who filed a complaint with Vellayil police here today about the incidents, has been treated at a government hospital here for injuries, the officer said. However, enquiries with college authorities revealed that the warden was allegedly attacked by the students on being questioned, he added.
"We will record his statement and if any congnisable offence arises, the complaint will be forwarded to the police at the place of occurrence for further action," he said.
