Pondy has made impressive progress in voter turnout:Chief Secy

Puducherry Chief Secretary Ashwani Kumar today said the Union Territory has made "impressive progress" in registering eligible voters and turnout of voters during polls and otherelectoral processes.

Addressing students of various educational institutions here on the occasion of National Voters Day, he said, "joint initiative of students, teachers and the election machinery could contribute a lot for further improvement in electoral process."

He said there was still scope for making improvement in electoral process here.

Later, the senior government official distributed electoral photo identity cards to fresh voters and those in the age group of 18-19 years.

In his address, Chief Electoral Officer V Candavelou noted that the special summary revision of electoral rolls for all the 30 Assembly constituencies here showed an increase in strength of voters by 18,2014.
 

The overall strength of voters in the Union Territory is 9.54 lakh voters.

Additional Chief Electoral Officer L Kumar, District Election Officer Satyendra Singh Dursawat and Deputy Chief electoral Officer B Thillaivel also spoke on the occasion.
