Lt Governor of Puducherry, Lt General(retd) A K Singh said the Union Territory was giving priority for gender equality and "Puducherry has most favourable sex ratio next only to Kerala".
Handing over benefits of various welfare schemes and also rolling out the "first anganwadi cum creche" project at a function here today, Singh said he was pleased to find that the Puducherry government was taking care of socio economic development of women and according high priority for their education.
He also stressed the need for making available all "facilities and opportunities for women according to the potential they possess and help them register good progress".

Chief Minister N Rangasamy, who presided, said that his government which was in deep financial crisis for the last three years to take up several welfare measures is now with fast improvement in the financial position.
The government could now launch several schemes to benefit as many as 6158 women in Puducherry region involving an expenditure of Rs 6.27 crores now, Rangasamy said.
