Pondy implementing Centre's power schemes: Minister

: The Puducherry government was implementing the Centrally-sponsored rural electrification scheme involving an expenditure of Rs 20.15 crore, Agriculture and Education Minister R Kamalakannan today said.

The scheme - Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jothi Yojana, was to develop infrastructural facilities for power supply in rural areas, he told the state assembly.

It was launched in 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with an aim to electrify the hinterlands of the nation.

Winding up the debate on demands for grants for some departments including Electricity, the Minister said the government was also implementing other Central schemes including "restructured accelerated power development and reforms programme" at a cost of Rs 113.68 crore.
 

Other were the Rs 21.63 crore integrated power development scheme and the Rs 43.91 crore "smart grid pilot project," he said.
