Irked over workers not turning up on time, Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy today said the government would soon introduce biometric system of monitoring attendance of employees and staff at work places.
Speaking to reporters after a surprise visit to offices of the Cooperative Supermarket Amudhaurabi here to ascertain whether the staff were at their work places on time, the chief minister said he was shocked to see that a majority of workers were coming 20 to 25 minutes late.

The Chief Minister was also taken aback at the presence of only one employee at an urban cooperative bank during his visit later to ascertain the punctuality of staff at the time of commencement of work at the bank at 10.A.M.
He said employees should keep in mind that they should be at work places on time as people seeking their services had been complaining of late arrival of the staff.
"This will not be tolerated and very soon biometric system to keep track of the attendance of the staff would be introduced in all offices and institutions," he said.
Narayanasamy was accompanied during his visit to the supermarket and also to the Cooperative Urban Bank in the town by Welfare and Cooperation Minister M Kandasamy and Agriculture Minister R Kamalakannan.
