Pondy to probe allegations against Drugs Controller

Puducherry government today announced that a probe would be conducted into the allegations against the style of functioning of the Puducherry Drugs Controller.

Chief Minister V Narayanasamy made the announcement in the assembly, when AIADMK MLA Vayyapuri Manikandan raised the issue during the zero hour.

Manikandan claimed that the Drugs Controller was posted without adherence to the usual procedures and that he was appointed to the post without obtaining any clearance from Vigilance department.

He also alleged that the Drugs Controller tortured his subordinates and directed that only drugs cleared by him should be sold in the market.As many as 150 pharmaceutical companies had moved out of Puducherry following the hardships the officer had caused, Manikandan claimed.
 

While pointing out that the government had already received several complaints against the Drugs Controller, Narayanasamy said a thorough inquiry would be conducted into the matter.

Speaker V Vaithilingam then asked the government to order a probe and ensure that it was completed in a month's time.
