Poonam Azad, a three-time national executive member of BJP and wife of its suspended MP Kirti Azad, will join the Aam Aadmi Party on November 13.

Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh made this announcement after meeting Poonam at her residence earlier today. Her inclusion will strengthen the party, he said.

"Today we held formal talks with her (Poonam) and it was decided that she will join the party on November 13. She had had a long career in the BJP.

"She played a major role in BJP's attempts to organise people from Purvanchal in Delhi. Her inclusion will strenghthen AAP and will boost the party's theme of woman empowerment," Singh told reporters.

AAP spokesperson Raghav Chaddha said she will be given a prominent role in the party.

Poonam, who had contested against former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in the 2003 Assembly polls, has faced growing marginalisation in BJP over the last few years.

Her decision is also driven by the suspension of Kirti Azad, who had launched a bitter attack on Finance Minister Arun Jaitley over alleged corruption in DDCA during this tenure as its head.
