Ace discus thrower Krishna Poonia, shooter Gagan Narang and archer Deepika Kumari are among top Indian sportspersons who have been invited by the Indian Olympic Association to receive the 2014 Commonwealth Games Queen's Baton here tomorrow.
The Queen's Baton for the 2014 Glasgow CWG is scheduled to reach the Capital at 8:30pm tomorrow and the IOA has invited around 15 sportspersons to receive it and also take part in the subsequent events on October 12 and 13.
Poonia, Narang and Deepika have won gold medals in the 2010 CWG here.
Samresh Jung, who won five gold medals in the 2006 Commonwealth Games, and 2010 CWG gold medallist weightlifter K Ravi Kumar have also been invited, besides four hockey players.
Five wrestlers -- Yogeshwar Dutt, Ravinder Singh, Anil Kumar, Geeta Phogat and Anita Tomar -- have also got the IOA invite.
Yesterday, the IOA set up a two-member committee of senior officials G S Mander and S Raghunathan for the smooth conduct of the 2014 Commonwealth Games Queen's Baton Relay in Agra and here.
Being the host of previous edition of CWG in 2010, New Delhi will be the first city to receive the Baton.
Malhotra had said because of the security reasons and Dussehra festival, some of the programmes relating to the relay have been curtailed and this has been agreed upon by the Commonwealth Games Federation and also by the organizers of the 2014 Glasgow Games.
The Baton will leave for Agra on the morning of October 12 to be taken to Taj Mahal and will return to the Capital in the afternoon.
It will reach India Gate at 2pm on October 12 and head for Major Dhyanchand National Stadium at 3pm before the British High Commissioner host a reception for the Baton in the evening.
On October 13, UNICEF will hold a programme in the morning and after that, the Baton will be taken to Qutub Minar by the athletes and IOA officials at 1:30pm.
The Baton will leave Delhi for Dhaka on the morning of October 14.
