Poppy plants worth Rs 1.90 crores destroyed in Manipur

Poppy plants worth Rs 1.90 crores were destroyed by Manipur narcotics officials aided by state police and Assam Rifles personnel in interior Chandel district bordering Myanmar.

On a tip off, the inspector of Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) R K Bikramjit on February 24 rushed to Sajik Tampak area near Indo-Myanmar border and found large cultivation of poppy plants.

Officials said the team destroyed poppy cultivation spread over 49 acres of land.

Poppy plant is the main ingredient for manufacturing narcotics drug popularly known as 'number four'.
