A porter, accompanying a team of trekkers from West Bengal, was feared dead as he slipped off a hillock along the Yamunotri trek today, police said.
The incident happened around 5:00 pm, Badkot police station incharge Vinod Thapaliyal said.
The porter hailed from the Vikas Nagar area in Dehradun district and was accompanying a team of five trekkers from West Bengal, who had left for a trek to Yamunotri on June 8, he said.
He slipped off a hillock about 9km ahead of Yamunotri, Thapaliyal said.
Heads of Jankichatti and Yamunotri police chawkis, along with SDRF personnel, were rushed to the spot for rescue, he said.
The matter was reported to the police by the trekkers and four porters when they came down to Jankichatti, he said.
