"It is frustrating sometimes, but it is something I am quite proud of. I am happy to be in India and to bring 'Florbela' to the cinema masses in here," the filmmaker said during an interaction with the media at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2012 here.

Vicente took almost three years to complete the project which has been showcased at at least 15 film festivals earning good reviews.

'Florbela' is the biographical film based on the life of the 20th century poetess Florbela Espanca.

"It is because of this woman that everybody reads in Portugal and Brazil," the director said.

Florbela, known as the 'precursor' of feminist movement in Portugal, had had a tumultuous and eventful life that shaped her love, erotic and feminine writings.

When asked why he decided to do the biopic on the legendary poetess, Vicente said what most of people know about her are myths.

"So I decided to investigate more about the truth behind this legendary woman. I wanted to bring the story onto the big screen to show her as a human being and the person as someone we could relate to in spite of being a national figure of literature," he explained.

"If I can get people to be curious about her poetry, I will be happy," Vicente said, adding through the movie he wishes to bring people back to Florbela's poetry and read and appreciate her work.
