Silver prices went up by Rs 106 to Rs 47,275 per kg in futures trading today as speculators widened positions amid firm trend in precious metals overseas.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in December was trading higher by Rs 106, or 0.22 per cent, at Rs 47,275 per kg in a business turnover of 581 lots.

Likewise, the white metal for delivery in far-month March next year was up by Rs 84, or 0.17 per cent, to Rs 48,110 per kg in six lots.

Analysts said that speculative positions created by participants tracking a firm trend in global market for precious metals after the US Federal Reserve decided against lifting interest rates at its meeting yesterday, raised demand for the commodities including precious metals. This influenced silver prices at futures trade.

Meanwhile, silver climbed 3.18 per cent to close at USD 19.82 an ounce in New York yesterday.
