Barley prices moved up Rs 16 to Rs 1,206 per quintal in futures trading today after participants widened positions, supported by a firming trend at the spot market.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, barley for delivery in November contracts rose by Rs 16, or 1.34 per cent, to Rs 1,206 per quintal, with an open interest of 610 lots.

On similar lines, barley for delivery this month contracts edged higher by Rs 11.50, or 1.03 per cent, to Rs 1,126 per quintal, having an open interest of 590 lots.

Marketmen said a firming trend at the spot market on the back of a pick-up in demand from beer makers and other industries amid tight supplies from growing regions lifted barley prices here.
