A day after a 7-year-old boy was killed in a fire that swept through a building which housed his tuition class, a Gujarat minister Tuesday said the government would move to regulate such classes.

Manthan Jadhav died of suffocation on Monday in the fire that took place in Surat's Vesu area.

Gujarat Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama said, "We are planning to introduce a system wherein people need to take permission from the authorities to start tuition classes. Officials will grant permission only after visiting the premises to determine if it is safe to conduct classes."

"As of now, there is no mechanism to regulate tuition classes. But, after this incident, we feel that the government must take immediate steps. We are in no mood to allow people to make money at the cost of other's lives," he said.

He added that a final decision in this regard will be taken soon after a meeting with Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
