Postal department officer gets 3-year RI for accepting bribe

A special CBI court here today sentenced a postal department official to three years rigourous imprisonment for taking bribe to process a job aspirant's application.

Special CBI Judge Rajiv Kumar Ayachi also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on Sub-Divisional Inspector A S Baria after convicting him of offences under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The prosecution said following a complaint by one Jitendra Septa, CBI had caught Baria from Mhow town near here while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 in July 2010.

Septa's father was a postman and, after his father's demise, wanted a job on compassionate grounds.
 

According to the prosecution, Baria demanded a bribe from Septa for processing his application.
