Potato prices were up 1.26 per cent to Rs 1,365 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators created fresh positions following rising demand in the spot market.

Besides, restricted arrivals from producing regions also supported the upside.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for delivery in June shot up by Rs 17, or 1.26 per cent, to Rs 1,365 per quintal in a business turnover of 59 lots.

The potato for delivery in July also climbed by Rs 13, or 0.92 per cent, to Rs 1,420.40 per quintal in 121 lots.

Analysts said apart from rising demand in the spot markets, restricted arrivals from producing regions pushed up potato prices at futures trade.
