About seventeen samples of dead and live broilers have tested negative for Avian Influenza virus which causes bird flu, officials said today.

The samples were sent to Jalandhar Lab for test after about 350 broilers, which arrived at the slaughter house of Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) on December 25, were found dead.

The samples were further sent to National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD), Bhopal, which said that "The report of poultry samples forwarded by Dr Vikram of Shimla Abattoir for Avian Influenza tested negative."

The SMC had withheld the remaining stock of 2,700 broilers and also stopped supply of broilers from the neighbouring states and local slaughter houses stopped getting the supplies.
